MIGRANT WORKERS' HEALTH CRISIS

It is an ominous sign. Workers responsible for our food are denied health care en masse. The people running health centers can't get insurance themselves. They're told 'illegal immigrants don't get access to the same rights' and given the run-around.

Some migrant workers are sent back to farming fields with sicknesses and chronic disease. It's the same colonial racism that greeted the indigenous farmers in Father Serra's agribusiness missions. Except now, the Church isn't the only profiteer.

And the risks are greater than ever before.

Climate change has only accelerated migrant workers' illness rate. Outdoor laborers cannot adjust to the unstable environment.

Migrant camps experience such poor housing that the workers' conditions worsen living there. Nightingale Camp in Rantoul, Ill.
